The Pink Tea Breakfast was inspired by history and shaped by the present.
The term “Pink Tea” comes from the early 1900s, when women fighting for the right to vote held secret meetings disguised as elegant tea parties. What appeared to be gentle social gatherings were, in truth, powerful acts of resistance, a spaces where women planned, strategized, and stood together for equality.
That same spirit of quiet strength and collective purpose inspired the Black Manitobans Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) to create our own modern Pink Tea tradition.
When the world shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, we witnessed something extraordinary and humbling. While most of us stayed home, first responders continued to show up, day after day, ensuring our communities kept moving and our families remained safe.
They were the nurses and doctors on the frontlines, the police officers and firefighters answering calls, the 911 operators guiding people through moments of crisis. These are the silent heroes, the people whose work often goes unseen but whose impact is felt by everyone.
And yet, when the world reopened, they quietly returned to the shadows. Still serving, still giving, without pause or recognition.
Among these heroes are women who carry a double weight. They perform their duties with the same dedication and courage as their male counterparts, often while managing the responsibilities of home, family, and community.
The Pink Tea Breakfast is our way of saying thank you. It’s a morning created especially for women first responders a chance for them to rest, connect, and simply enjoy a moment of calm before or after their demanding shifts.
Whether they’re coming off a long night or preparing for a new day, this space belongs to them. It’s a reminder that their work matters, their sacrifices are seen, and their wellbeing deserves to be celebrated.
At BMCC, the Pink Tea Breakfast isn’t just an event it’s a gesture of gratitude. A time to pause, reflect, and recognize the incredible women who continue to keep our communities strong.
