Retired Master Sailor Jon Reyes is a respected veteran, former Manitoba MLA, and business and community leader who has made significant contributions to both public service and community development. The first Canadian-born Filipino MLA in Manitoba, he was elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2019, serving in several key provincial cabinet roles including Minister of Labour and Immigration, Advanced Education, and Economic Development. Prior to his political career, he served 10 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, earning the NATO Special Service Medal for his service. An entrepreneur and dedicated community advocate, Jon Reyes has founded two businesses in Winnipeg and held leadership positions with organizations such as the Manitoba Filipino Business Council, where he served as Founder and Past President, the Kidney Foundation of Manitoba as a Director, and with the CFL and Manitoba Football Officials Association. In recognition of his longstanding commitment to community service, he received the Premier’s Volunteer Service Award for 12 years of service. He currently serves as Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Business Development at Nation West and Nation North Insurance, continuing to contribute to Manitoba’s economic and community growth.
