Ret’d Cpl Shauna Mulligan is a proud Turtle Clan member and Métis veteran based in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Treaty One Territory), whose life and career reflect a deep commitment to service, advocacy, and community. Having served in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve from 1995 to 2002 as a Medical Assistant with 17 Medical Company, and attach-posted to the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, she has continued her service beyond the military through a 20-year career in health care focused on Indigenous wellness and support. Shauna is currently pursuing a PhD in Indigenous Studies at the University of Manitoba, where her research centers on the voices and experiences of Indigenous veterans. A dedicated advocate, she contributes to national and community initiatives through roles with Aboriginal Veterans Autochtones, the Defense Indigenous Advisory Group, and the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families, while also teaching in Indigenous Studies and Social Work. Her work is rooted in cultural connection, including participation in sweat lodges, sun dances, and powwows, and is driven by a lifelong commitment to uplifting Indigenous communities and honoring the experiences of veterans.
