In 2018, Canada had nearly 67,000 Black business owners, representing 2.1% of all business owners. While more Black Canadians are turning to entrepreneurship, their businesses remain smaller on average and face weaker financial performance than those owned by White or other racialized groups. At the same time, racialized workers overall continue to earn less, with Black men and women facing some of the largest employment and income gaps in the country. These findings underline the persistence of structural barriers and the urgent need for bold policies and tailored support.
