Randi “Miss Randi” Cage is a Veteran, Knowledge Keeper, and dedicated community leader whose life has been defined by service, advocacy, and healing. A Vietnam Era Veteran who served as an Armour Supply Specialist, her military service marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to supporting others, preserving history, and uplifting communities across Canada and beyond.
Randi is the Founder of Aboriginal Veterans Day, observed on November 8, a nationally significant day of recognition that honours Indigenous Veterans in Canada. She also served as Charter Vice President of the National Aboriginal Veterans Association of Canada and as Charter Secretary Treasurer of the Manitoba Aboriginal Veterans Association. Through this work, she has played a vital role in ensuring Indigenous Veterans are seen, remembered, and honoured with dignity.
Her contributions extend far beyond military and veterans’ advocacy. Randi has devoted decades to volunteerism, community health advocacy, palliative care, and international relief efforts, including tsunami aid in Sri Lanka. She has also supported newcomers, advocated for seniors, worked alongside Cancer Care Manitoba, and helped advance the development of an Aboriginal Veterans memorial in Riverton. In every space she serves, she is known for leading with compassion, honesty, strength, and purpose.
Randi’s impact has been recognized through numerous honours, including the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation in 2016, the Manitoba Lieutenant Governor’s Make a Difference Award in 2014, and the Women of Distinction Award for Volunteerism and Advocacy in 2013. More than a veteran, she is a healer, a truth teller, and a powerful force for remembrance, justice, and community care. Her legacy continues to inspire all those who have had the privilege of learning from her and walking alongside her.
