Bill Shead, a proud member of Peguis First Nation, dedicated 36 years of service to Canada in the Royal Canadian Navy. Following his distinguished military career, he continued to serve the public as the Mayor of Selkirk, Manitoba, and later as Regional Director with Veterans Affairs Canada. A graduate of Collège Militaire Royal, Dalhousie University, and the Canadian Forces Staff College, Mr. Shead has remained deeply committed to leadership, education, and community development. He currently serves as Chair of the Neeginan Centre and Vice Chair of Neeginan Education and Employment Services, and contributes nationally as a Board Member of Indspire and Governor of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. As Co-Chair of the Peguis–Selkirk Treaty Project, he is helping lead efforts to establish a treaty monument that honours history and reconciliation. Throughout his life and career, Mr. Shead has been a dedicated advocate for Indigenous rights, veterans’ affairs, and the continued growth and strength of communities across Canada.
