Updated April 21st 2025
As the federal election approaches on April 28, 2025, the Black Manitoban Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) is proud to support civic education by promoting free tools and resources that help adult learners better understand how Canada’s democracy works—and how they can be part of it.
Why Civic Literacy Matters
Civic literacy means understanding how government functions, knowing your rights and responsibilities, and feeling confident in how to participate—especially at election time. When adult learners gain knowledge in this area, they are more likely to vote, more resistant to divisive rhetoric, and more open to engaging with different political perspectives.
The result? A stronger, more inclusive democracy where every voice can be heard.
BMCC encourages adult educators, community leaders, and learners to explore new, easy-to-use civic literacy resources designed to support active participation in the upcoming federal election.
The “Guide to Voting” includes:
Step-by-step instructions on how to register to vote
Clear explanations of how voting works in Canada
Interactive exercises to help learners build confidence in the process
This guide is available both as a printable workbook and an online course to suit different learning environments.
Practice Election: Build familiarity with the ballot process
Know Your Riding: Discover what matters in your local community
These tools are meant to make civic learning more accessible—especially for those who didn’t have these opportunities earlier in life.
Instructors and program leaders are encouraged to weave these civic tools into their lesson plans and outreach efforts. Fillable posters and promotional materials are also available to help spread the word in your community.
With clear language, engaging content, and official information from Elections Canada, these resources empower learners to step confidently into the democratic process.
