BMCC Statement on Federal Election Priorities

The upcoming federal election presents a pivotal opportunity for the Black Manitobans Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) and Canada’s broader Black business community to ensure that our voices, needs, and aspirations are front and centre in national conversations.

We are calling on all political parties to go beyond symbolic gestures and commit to bold, measurable investments in Black economic development. This includes targeted funding for Black-owned businesses, inclusive procurement reforms, and equitable access to capital. Our members have repeatedly shared the barriers they face – from financing gaps to underrepresentation in high-growth industries- and now is the time for meaningful action.

We also expect robust commitments around Francophone immigration, particularly for Black Francophones settling outside Quebec. Manitoba’s French-speaking Black community continues to grow, yet faces serious integration challenges. We urge parties to support inclusive, culturally competent immigration and economic development programs that meet the needs of French-speaking newcomers from Africa and the Caribbean.

BMCC will remain a convener and advocate — ensuring our community is not just engaged during election season but meaningfully included in decision-making throughout the year.
