Black Manitobans Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) welcomes the collaboration across levels of government in signing the Canadian Mutual Recognition Agreement, a move that signals meaningful progress toward a unified domestic market.
For years, Canadian businesses have called for leadership from federal and provincial governments to remove long-standing internal trade barriers,” said Dr.Deborah-Zita Somakoko, President and Founder of the Chamber. “In today’s fragile economic environment, momentum isn’t optional. It’s essential.”
The agreement promotes the free movement of goods, reduces regulatory duplication, and aims to lower costs for Canadian businesses navigating interprovincial commerce. It also reflects a spirit of cooperation that reinforces Canada’s economic resilience.
“We’re encouraged that governments have acted in unison,” added Dr.Somakoko. “This is not just bold ambition. It’s follow-through. We look forward to full implementation and expansion to cover all goods.”
As supply chain challenges persist and domestic markets remain under pressure, this agreement provides a stronger platform for Canadian businesses to compete, innovate, and grow.
